TL;DR

What moved and why

UK compression — deepest, longest instance of the month (likely still SERP-local, but no longer costless). The daily band trend since the 08-02 recovery peak tells it plainly:

Date t3 t10 t20/ranked avg
08-02 183 338 347 4.16
08-03 158 319 338 4.74
08-04 144 322 340 4.89
08-05 137 306 342 5.46

Four straight days down on t3, and today t10 finally cracked (−16). The four prior instances this month all reversed inside 1-3 days; this one hasn't. Verdict: this is a genuine, sustained local UK SERP recompression — confidence high. What keeps it amber not red: the aggregate carries zero net loss (top-20 = ranked, ranked +2), and the dispersion of the 08-04 top-10 cohort is still overwhelmingly a shuffle — 107 t3 held, 33 t3→4-10, only 3 crossed out of top-20 (coventry, stratford, rochdale), offset by 5 entering.

Today's three out-crossers are the notable part: coventry (2→OUT), stratford (4→OUT), rochdale (4→OUT) — all three had been stable page-1 heads, cliffing clean. That echoes the 08-03 pattern (southend/wolverhampton/hertfordshire cliffs), most of which came back. Encouragingly, yesterday's two stayout-worries both returned: canary wharf OUT→5, northampton OUT→20. Central-london is the one that's now 2 days out (9→OUT→OUT).

IT — quiet rotation, capture holding (confirmed). IT Δ1d −0.3 reads worse than it is: t3 9→6 but top-20 flat (166→167), t10 113. That's the same top-3↔page-1 flapping the EA-vacuum case has described all week (palermo/perugia/firenze bouncing 3↔6-7). The briefing's escort-city →OUT wall — including escort a prato (10→OUT, vol 90,500) — is habitual tail oscillation: prato has flapped 6-11 for a week and blinked out for a single day. Not the capture reversing.

Recommendations

  1. UK — decision point, not action point (yet). Hold the template (four prior reversals earned that patience). But this is the first instance to run 4 days and erode avg by 1.3 over 30 days, so if t3/t10 don't rebound within 1-2 days, stop calling it costless: pull GSC impressions/clicks for the compressed city-heads (coventry, stratford, rochdale, central-london, and the 11-20 band) to price the CTR loss. That pull needs BJ — no GSC in this env.
  2. IT — ship the internal-link push on the rank 4-7 EA-vacated cities (palermo/perugia/firenze first). Highest-ROI action available; window closing.
  3. Standing anchor-hygiene (low urgency): point city-head anchors at canonical pages (/cardiff/, /central-london/) not the /cf11/, /london-2/ siblings — same cannibalization signature keeps recurring around the cliff terms.

Watchlist

Updated in watchlist.md: UK compression case updated (08-05: deepest/longest, 4th down-day, decision point — still amber, escalate red if no rebound in 1-2d or the 11-20 band starts crossing out); IT capture and BR growth carried forward; central-london added to the UK stayout watch (day 2).
